Until Ford spills the beans on the all-new seventh-generation Mustang, pony car fans will have to settle for any hints they can get. And the latest clue comes from eagle-eyed Twitter users who spotted a manual transmission shift pattern in Ford's graphic for the forthcoming S650 Mustang.

Ford Teases A Manual

Responding to teaser posts by Ford North America Product Communications Director Mike Levine and the company's @FordMustang account, Twitter users are commenting on the six-speed manual gearbox pattern embedded within the "o" in "generation."

It's good news for Mustang enthusiasts worried the next-generation model would skip the stick. Since day one, three-pedal Stangs have been around, with the first models using three-speed and four-speed units. A factory five-speed manual appeared during the Fox Body/third generation, while the first six-speed managed things in the 2000 Mustang Cobra R.

About The 7th-Generation Ford Mustang

Rumors about the next Mustang have been swirling around the industry for years. The launch of the all-electric Mustang Mach-E initially cast doubt that an internal combustion engine would be part of the 7th-generation Mustang. But at least a confirmed six-speed manual for the S650 means they'll be something traditional under the hood.

It's also backed up by a recent quote from Kumar Galhotra, Ford Blue president, commenting on the S650's manufacturing in Michigan. "Our frontline manufacturing employees are the key to delivering what our customers want more of…must-have internal combustion-powered vehicles like the forthcoming all-new Mustang coupe."
