The all-new 2020 Lincoln Corsair touts a quiet and sharp-looking interior, but it has dull handling and a lackluster base engine compared to most competitors. The Corsair does not have an overall score or ranking because it has not yet been fully crash tested.

Is the Lincoln Corsair a Good SUV?

The Lincoln Corsair is an OK luxury compact SUV. It doesn't have any glaring weaknesses, but it also doesn't have many outstanding strengths either.

There are two turbocharged engine choices. The base engine has adequate power, but the optional power plant delivers more pep. This SUV's handling is unimpressive by class standards. It's not particularly sporty, and while the Corsair is tuned for calm cruising, other luxury SUVs strike a better balance between handling agility and ride comfort.

The two-row Corsair has a mostly upscale atmosphere, ample room to get comfortable, and a good amount of cargo space. The touch screen in this Lincoln is a bit smaller than some competitors, but the infotainment features are easy to use overall.

Should I Buy the Lincoln Corsair?

The Corsair is most attractive as a value proposition. In this pricey class, the Lincoln's roughly-$36,000 MSRP is one of the lowest. For your money, though, you get a long list of standard driver assistance technology along with a healthy dose of infotainment features.

Higher-end versions of the Corsair cost more than $56,000 and don't match up as well against the competition. If you're planning on spending those big bucks, check out top-ranked rivals such as the Mercedes-Benz GLC and Audi Q5.

Should I Buy a New or Used Lincoln Corsair?

The 2020 Lincoln Corsair is an all-new model that replaces the Lincoln MKC in the luxury brand’s SUV lineup. As such, you likely won’t find any used Corsair models for sale. The Corsair’s debut falls in line with the fully redesigned 2020 Ford Escape, a model this Lincoln shares its underpinnings with.

The Corsair boasts many improvements over the outgoing MKC. It serves up roomier seating, more cargo space, and more horsepower than its predecessor. The Corsair also comes standard with many standard driver assistance features that were optional in the MKC. Though you’ll likely save thousands of dollars by going with an MKC, this new Lincoln is a better buy than the model it replaces.

The 2020 Lincoln Corsair starts at $35,945, which is one of the lowest base prices in the luxury compact SUV class. The MSRP approaches $40,000 if you add all-wheel drive, and you'll pay $42,630 or more for the Corsair Reserve trim. Models with the stronger engine retail for almost $50,000. A loaded Corsair with most major options and packages can cost north of $56,000.

Which Is Better: Lincoln Corsair or Mercedes-Benz GLC?

The Mercedes-Benz GLC is one of the best choices in the segment. It combines a classy cabin and lots of passenger space with a plush, luxurious ride. The GLC's safety and predicted reliability ratings are among the best in the class, which also helps push it to a higher ranking than the Corsair. However, this Mercedes doesn’t come cheap, with the GLC's MSRP starting over $40,000. With five powertrain choices and two body styles, GLC prices can top $80,000. If it’s in your budget, you should buy the Mercedes over the Lincoln.

Which Is Better: Lincoln Corsair or Audi Q5?

The Audi Q5 is among the most-expensive vehicles in the luxury compact SUV class, but it has a high overall rating to back it up. This Audi delivers spry acceleration from both of its available engines. A great combination of handling prowess and ride comfort also beats out the Corsair's somewhat boring drive. Both the Corsair and Q5 have spacious seats, quality cabin materials, and user-friendly infotainment systems. The Audi is a little nicer inside, but the Corsair has a little more cargo room. How Many People Does the Corsair Seat?

The Lincoln Corsair seats five people, and accommodations are great no matter where you sit. The front seats feature standard 10-way power adjustments, and you can opt for 24-way power adjustments. The driver has great outward visibility in all directions.

Second-row passengers are treated to ample head- and legroom as well. The Corsair’s back seats slide back to create up to 6 inches of rear legroom, which is unique for a two-row vehicle.

Corsair Interior Quality

This Lincoln boasts a sleek, modern interior design. The cabin stays quiet thanks to a dual-wall dashboard, which blocks most engine noise. If there is a downside, it's that the Corsair has a few hard-plastic pieces in some spots, which detracts from its upscale appeal.

Corsair Cargo Space

The Corsair serves up 27.6 cubic feet of cargo space behind its back seat. That number is fairly impressive for a luxury compact SUV. The second row can slide forward to create more cargo room. The back seats fold down to open up 57.6 cubic feet of space, which is closer to the class average. The clamshell-style liftgate has a large, wide opening.

The Corsair is available with a hands-free power liftgate and power-folding rear seats.

Corsair Infotainment, Bluetooth, and Navigation

All Corsair models come with the SYNC 3 infotainment system. The interface is the same as what you’ll find in most other Lincoln and Ford vehicles. It's straightforward and easy to use, with simple menus and clear graphics. However, the Corsair's standard 8-inch touch screen is a little underwhelming compared to what you'll find in some competitors.

Standard infotainment features include Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, satellite radio, a Wi-Fi hot spot, and a 10-speaker premium stereo. The list of options includes navigation, a panoramic roof, a 14-speaker Revel stereo, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, wireless device charging, and a household-style power outlet.

Corsair Engine: Decent Power

The all-new 2020 Lincoln Corsair is powered by one of two turbocharged four-cylinder engines. The base 2.0-liter engine generates 250 horsepower, and it has a decent amount of low-end torque to get you moving from a stop.

For more zest, upgrade to the 2.3-liter engine that has an output of 295 horsepower. It’s a better match for the Corsair’s size, and it delivers strong acceleration in most driving situations. Both engines are mated to a smooth eight-speed automatic transmission.

Corsair Gas Mileage: Pretty Good

The front-wheel-drive Corsair gets an EPA-estimated 22 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway, which are solid figures for a luxury compact SUV. The optional engine, which is only available with all-wheel drive, returns 21/28 mpg city/highway.

Corsair Ride and Handling: Focused on Comfort

The Corsair’s steering doesn’t provide much feedback, and while this SUV feels composed around corners, its handling is dull compared to rivals. Instead, the Corsair has a calm ride that remains comfortable over bumpy roads. However, the ride can get bouncy over bumpy roads.

Other standard features include a rearview camera, rear parking sensors, and the MyKey system, which lets you do things like set volume and speed limitations for secondary drivers.

The optional upgraded Co-Pilot360 Plus includes stop-and-go adaptive cruise control, speed-limit sign recognition, lane centering assist, evasive steering assist, reverse automatic emergency braking, front parking sensors, a surround-view parking camera system, and Active Park Assist Plus automatic parking. You can also opt for adaptive headlights, a head-up display, and rain-sensing windshield wipers.

The 2020 Lincoln Corsair comes in two main trims: Standard and Reserve. A 2.0-liter turbocharged engine and front-wheel drive are standard in both trims, and all-wheel drive is optional. The Reserve can be upgraded to come with a turbocharged 2.3-liter engine and all-wheel drive.

If you are sold on buying a Corsair, the base model is a solid pick. It comes well-equipped with heated front seats, remote start, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and a Wi-Fi hot spot. The Corsair also has a long list of standard driver assistance features. Most of the SUV’s optional features are available as part of several packages offered with the base model.

Lincoln Corsair Standard

The 2020 Lincoln Corsair Standard starts at $35,945. It comes with synthetic leather upholstery, 10-way power-adjustable and heated front seats, driver's seat memory settings, sliding second-row seats, proximity keyless entry, dual-zone automatic climate control, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, remote start, heated outside mirrors, and a power liftgate.

The SYNC 3 infotainment system features an 8-inch touch screen, two USB ports, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, satellite radio, a Wi-Fi hot spot, and a 10-speaker premium stereo. Standard driver-assist technology includes forward collision warning, pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, automatic high-beam headlights, a rearview camera, rear parking sensors, and the MyKey driver monitoring feature.

For an extra $1,650, you can get the Standard I Equipment Collection, which is a package that adds a power-folding rear seat, interior ambient lighting, a universal garage door opener, and voice-activated navigation.

The Lincoln Co-Pilot360 Plus package ($3,050) adds a surround-view parking camera system, automatic parking assist, front parking sensors, evasive steering assist, reverse automatic emergency braking, stop-and-go adaptive cruise control, speed-limit sign recognition, and lane centering assist. The Elements package ($1,100) adds ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, a heated steering wheel, and rain-sensing windshield wipers. For $2,500, the Premium package gives you with leather seats and a panoramic roof.

Lincoln Corsair Reserve

The Lincoln Corsair Reserve carries a starting price of $42,630. The Reserve builds on the Standard trim's features with leather upholstery, a power tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, navigation, power-folding rear seats, a panoramic roof, a hands-free power liftgate, a universal garage door opener, and a 14-speaker Revel stereo.

The Reserve I package will cost you $4,150, though it includes a healthy list of additional features. It adds ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, a heated steering wheel, rain-sensing windshield wipers, a surround-view parking camera system, front parking sensors, automatic parking assist, evasive steering assist, reverse automatic emergency braking, stop-and-go adaptive cruise control, speed-limit sign recognition, and lane centering assist. A head-up display is optional for $1,700, and an adaptive suspension costs $700 on top of the Reserve I package.  

The Reserve II package ($11,540) adds all of the above features, in addition to a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a household-style power outlet, adaptive headlights, wireless device charging, 24-way power-adjustable front seats, and the Phone As A Key function.

Some of these optional features may be available as part of a less-expensive package, and they may be tied in with other packages or drivetrain upgrades.

The Final Call

The all-new 2020 Lincoln Corsair has plenty of standard infotainment tech and active safety features. Although the cabin is a nice place to be, the Corsair's driving dynamics don’t compare favorably to many other luxury compact SUVs.
