Met Gala 2019 red carpet: See all the celeb dresses, outfits & looks
On May 6, celebrities and designers flocked to the Metropolitan Museum of Art for its annual Met Gala, celebrating the Costume Institute’s newest exhibition, “Camp: Notes on Fashion.” In order to capture that utterly eccentric aesthetic sensibility (described so persuasively in Susan Sontag’s 1964 essay “Notes on ‘Camp’ ”), celebrities drew on fashions both silly and sublime. The 2019 Met Gala was definitely not lacking spectacular red carpet moments. From Lady Gaga to Katy Perry, Kendall Jenner to Gigi Hadid, guests transformed the party’s venerable venue into a feather- and flounce-filled fantasia—each doing their best to step up to the grand occasion. In addition to our list of the evening’s best-dressed stars, here you’ll see every suit, cape, and gown that graced the Met’s dramatic front steps. The Met Gala’s campiest red carpet entrances (and exits!)
Last night, celebrities ran wild with the Met Gala’s camp theme in New York City. It was an evening filled with fabulous fashions that doubled as performance art—and what better way to capture these unforgettable moments than by snapping the stars as soon as they hit the red (make that pink!) carpet? To do so, Vogue’s resident street style photographer Phil Oh hit the paparazzi-flanked step and repeat to capture some of the best entrances. Many of the standout guests made a statement before they had even arrived at the venue. Take Kacey Musgraves, who rolled up in a pink convertible that matched her Barbie look. Or there was Lady Gaga, who walked to the museum with her sweeping Brandon Maxwell creation, surrounded by men in tuxedos carrying black umbrellas. Once on the carpet, the candid snaps didn’t stop, either. Billy Porter sharing a moment with his six shirtless litter carriers, for one, is not to be missed. Scroll through for more of Oh’s highlights.
