Judge Judy Sheindlin is known for her tough courtroom rulings, and she's just as decisive in her relationships.

The 74-year-old TV star -- who earns AU$59.5 million per year -- has opened up about her first marriage to attorney Ronald Levy, whom she left after he belittled her desire to work.

"My first husband is a lovely, lovely man but he always viewed my job as a hobby and there came a time where I resented that," she told Fox News' OBJECTified.

It was the early '60s. Judy had graduated and was soon to pass the bar exam, but her life as an attorney was abruptly put on hold.

"It was time for me to get married," she recounted. "I was 20, almost 21. So I became a mum."

One year later, she met her second husband, Jerry Sheindlin, whom she divorced in 1990, but then decided to remarry after a year apart.

"I missed him, I missed him and I really found out -- this is not to denigrate your species -- actually, most men are alike," she revealed to the show's male host.

Now, 27 years later, the judge-turned-reality star is still married to Jerry and says their brief separation taught her some valuable lessons about the opposite sex.

"They expect, even if they have no right, they expect to be taken care of or catered to."

As for her views on pay parity in the workforce: "Do I want equal pay with men? Absolutely not!"

Indeed, that's probably because she far outearns the boys.
