Hayden Panettiere recalls 'heartbreak' of giving up custody amid addiction battle, plus more news

By Wonderwall.com Editors of Wonderwall | Slide 1 of 7: Hayden Pannettiere is opening up about the "heartbreaking" experience of signing over custody of her daughter to her ex when she was battling drug and alcohol addiction. In new clips from this week's "Red Table Talk," the "Nashville" alum is asked about the most "misunderstood thing" about her, according to ABC News. "The idea that I'm a person who would just easily throw out my child, you know, give away my child," she replies. "I mean it was the worst signing those papers and like the most heartbreaking thing I've ever, ever had to do in my life." Hayden revealed over the summer that she was sober after a long struggle with alcohol and depression. As she shared on "Good Morning America" in July, she gave up custody of her daughter, Kaya, 7, to her ex-partner, Wladimir Klitschko, around that time. Speaking to Jada Pinkett Smith and the other hosts of "Red Table Talk," Hayden explained: "The papers were to give him full custody and I was gonna go work on myself and I was gonna get better. And when I got better, then things could change and she could come to me and I could have my time with her. But that didn't happen," she continued. "If he had come to me and said, you know, 'I think because of where you're at right now and the struggles that you're having, it would be good for her to be over here with me for a while,' to which I probably -- if I had enough of a conversation, would have said, 'OK that makes sense I get it, I'll come there, you know, to visit' and stuff like that," she added. "Because of the way it was done, is very upsetting." Hayden's "Red Table Talk" airs Wednesday on Facebook Watch.Keep reading for more news ...
