Jack the Ripper is coming to Corpus Christi, and only you and your team of detectives can stop him.

That's the premise behind CluedUpp's virtual murder-mystery game.

The award-winning British game studio will host "The Corpus Christi Ripper," an outdoor adventure game, on Saturday, Feb. 20 in Corpus Christi.

The game studio's website states the game is centered around a team of detectives who use a smartphone app to scramble all over town, hunt down virtual witnesses, eliminate suspects and see if they have what it takes to crack the case.

Since December 2016, CluedUpp has had almost half a million players participate in its citywide events, with games happening in more than 38 countries worldwide, the website states.

The website states the murder-mystery game covers a distance of 5 to 7 kilometers and will have different (secret) start locations throughout the city.

To play, a team must have two to six players, a clever team name and have one smartphone per team to use the game's app (iOS10 or Android version 6.0).

The website states teams will have a chance to earn prize titles after the game. Some of the titles include Fastest Team, Best Fancy Dress (detective inspired), Best Team Picture, Best Team Name, Best Young Detective (for those under 16 years) and Best K-9 (dog prize).

CluedUpp states the outdoor game is safe to play during the coronavirus pandemic, for all witnesses in the game are virtual and players will only come into contact with their own teammates.

The game's COVID-19 safety protocols include limited tickets for each event in order to reduce the number of players in each city, different starting locations to avoid congestion and an extended playing time window so teams may participate at different times during the day.

Are you interested in playing? The website states each ticket is $50 and covers the cost of six players per team. Players under 16 years old can play as extra for free; however, the game is not designed to be played or solved by children on their own.
