Usher gives Queen Latifah her flowers during Las Vegas show
In July 2021, Grammy-winning R&B artist Usher, debuted his first Las Vegas residency show. After a year at Caesars Palace’s The Coliseum, he renamed the show “My Way: The Vegas Residency” after his breakthrough album from 1997 and took it to the Park MGM.
Fans of the “You Remind Me” singer have been packing the Park MGM to see him perform his greatest hits and reviews have been unanimous in their expressions of props for the show. Queen Latifah was one of many devoted fans who came to show her admiration for the performer.
For her birthday on March 18th, Latifah treated herself to the “My Way” show at the Park MGM’s Dolby Live Theater. Once Usher peeped that the veteran New Jersey MC was in the building, he paused his performance, went into the crowd and presented her with a beautiful, extravagant bouquet of red roses along with a gift box as her smash-hit record “U.N.I.T.Y.” played over the sound system.
Usher posted the clip on Instagram along with the caption, “Giving the queen her flowers.” Folks in the audience were hype to have Latifah there and cheered as the singer greeted and hugged her on his way back to the stage.
Over the course of her career, Queen Latifah has proven to be a force in more fields than just rap. She’s not only a successful entrepreneur, but also a talented actor. She currently stars in and executive produces “The Equalizer,” based on the film franchise of the same name. She’s also received acclaim for her roles in “Chicago,” which earned her Golden Globes and Academy Awards nominations, and “Bessie,” in which she portrayed American blues singer Bessie Smith. She earned a lead actress Primetime Emmy nomination, and took home an Emmy for “Outstanding Television Movie” due to her executive producer credit on the film. She was also a star on the classic sitcom “Living Single,” hosted her own talk show, and established the CoverGirl Queen Collection cosmetics line, which really had the beauty game on lock for some time.
Overall, she’s truly one of the greatest in the game and Usher is the most recent musician to recognize the Queen’s impact on music and culture. Lil’ Kim, Missy Elliott, and Megan Thee Stallion, just to name a few, are just a handful of the women in hip-hop who have credited Latifah as an inspiration and a leading figure for them throughout their careers, as noted by REVOLT.
The DA.I.S.Y. Experience, which honored Trugoy the Dove of De La Soul, who tragically passed away last month, brought together a great deal of hip-hop history earlier this month. The inspiring video of Queen Latifah and Monie Love performing their 1989 joint single “Ladies First” was widely shared on social media.
Latifah has demonstrated her influence and strength over the years, and it is obvious that she still possesses both, so shouts out to Usher for giving the Queen her well-deserved flowers. Check out the clip of her recent performance in Webster Hall.
