LOGANVILLE, GA — Loganville is one of the safer cities in Georgia, according to a survey released earlier this month by a website that tracks crime and security.

With parts of the city in both Gwinnett and Walton counties, SafeWise ranks Loganville 31st on its list of Georgia’s 50 Safest Cities of 2020. Nearby Social Circle in Walton County is ranked 24th.

Other Gwinnett County cities that made the top 50 are Duluth at 14, Flowery Branch at 27 and Suwanee at 33.

The survey ranked 127 Georgia cities. Cities in Gwinnett County that finished outside the top 50 were Lilburn at 56, Snellville at 63 and Norcross at 75.

SafeWise ranks cities in Georgia and other states based on both violent crimes and property crimes as reported to the FBI. While Georgia’s violent crime rate is low versus the national rate — 3.3 incidents per 1,000 versus 3.7 incidents nationwide, its property-crime rate is considerably higher, at 25.7 incidents per 1,000 versus a national rate of 22.0.

Loganville reported 1.3 violent crimes per 1,000 and 26.0 property crimes per 1,000 — considerably fewer violent crimes but about the same number of property crimes as the rest of the state. Social Circle reported 2.0 violent crimes per 1,000, and 16.6 property crimes per 1,000.

SafeWise’s 10 safest Georgia cities are Braselton, Johns Creek, Milton, Senoia, Summerville, Holly Springs, Tyrone, Peachtree City, Chatsworth and Grovetown. Milton ranked 55th nationally, and Johns Creek ranked 85th nationally.

Crime rates were computers for cities that met SafeWise's population threshold, which is based on the median population of the state. If a city isn't included, it either didn't meet that threshold or didn't submit crime statistics to the FBI.
