AUSTIN, TEXAS — Austin Restaurant Weeks organizers raised nearly$140,000 at its first fundraising event benefiting the Central Texas Food Bank, officials said Tuesday.

Presented by Tito’s® Handmade Vodka, the fundraiser raised a grand total of $137,408. Officials made the announcement during a reception at the Food Bank on Monday, Oct. 29.

Austin Restaurant Weeks 2018 took place from Aug. 16 through Sept. 3, with participation from more than 80 Austin-area restaurants, bars and breweries featured specially priced lunches, dinners and beverages who donated a portion of the cost of each meal or drink going directly to the Central Texas Food Bank.

“We’re thrilled that in just its first year, Austin Restaurant Weeks raised enough to provide so many meals for our neighbors in need,” Mark Jackson, chief development officer at the Central Texas Food Bank, said. “These results show what we can do as a community when we come together to fight hunger. A huge thanks to all of our sponsors, participating restaurants and bars, planning committee and to everyone out there who dined and drank for a cause during Austin Restaurant Weeks.”

Hunger is a prevalent throughout Central Texas, officials explained, where 1 in 6 of our neighbors are unsure where their next meal will come from. The Food Bank can turn every dollar donated into four meals, so every dollar helps, officials noted

Austin Restaurant Weeks will be back in 2019, running from Aug. 15t to Sept. 2.

In addition to Tito’s® Handmade Vodka, sponsors of Austin Restaurant Weeks 2018 included The Austin Chronicle, Bank of America, Bell’s Brewery, CultureMap Austin, Domain NORTHSIDE, Edible Austin, Fairmont Austin, ProductionFor, Screamer Co., SHIFT Communications, Tabulate, and W. Hamilton & Co., PLLC.
