Summer is officially here and Atlanta families are doing all the quintessential summer activities, like heading out in the evening for cooler temps and live music. This weekend head to Norcross for the Summer Concert Series on Friday night in Thrasher Park; hit The Bowl at Sugar Hill Splash Nights; and spend an evening in Roswell at Riverside Sounds. We love these weekend events because kids can run around, parents can unwind and listen to music, and it's all FREE.

Atlanta- Through July 31

Visitors to Atlanta's Illuminarium get a full sensory journey with Waking Wonderland, the venue's latest interactive experience. Based on Lewis Carroll's Wonderland, the exhibit takes guests through a dreamlike journey where they encouter the Cheshire Cat and the Mat Hatter, among others.  read more

Sandy Springs - Friday, June 24

City Green Live concerts are back in Sandy Springs, starting May 13 and running select Fridays through the end of July. The free concert series features a different headliner each time along with an opening musical act.  read more

Duluth - Friday, June 24

Come to downtown Duluth on Fridays, through September, for delicious food trucks boasting exotic flavors. Besides the food, kids and parents can also enjoy live entertainment.  read more

Norcross - Friday, June 24

Parents and kids can dance and sing all summer long at Thrasher Park with the city's summer concert series. The bands featured are all upbeat and family-friendly; Local restaurants create picnics for purchase or families can bring their own food and drinks.  read more

Sugar Hill - Friday, June 24

Families can bring food, listen to live music, jump on inflatables and play in the Bowl at Sugar Hill's splash park at this monthly event, held on the last Friday May-September. See the splash park all lit up once the sun goes down. For those who don't pack a picnic, food trucks are available. read more

Alpharetta - Friday, June 24

Families can gather in the Plaza (green space in front of Regal Cinemas) every Friday from April to October for music and dancing.  read more

Roswell - June 24 & 25

Kids laugh and are amazed at Roswell's Summer Puppet Series, featuring a different show each week for five weeks. Buy a Puppet Pass and see all five shows in the series for the price of four.  read more

Midtown - Saturday, June 25 (matinee: Coco)

Film enthusiasts head to the Fox Theatre for two weekends in June to see classic movies. Some productions are geared toward kids (Coco and Saturday morning cartoons), and some are for adults (Saturday Night Fever and The Godfather). Fans can also purchase tickets for special tours prior to the films ($25 plus fees), where they can get behind-the-scenes views of the Fox.  read more

Roswell - Saturday, June 25

Visitors bring blankets and chairs to Roswell's Riverside Park along the Chattahoochee for free concerts the fourth Saturday of each month, May-October. Families enjoy music, food (their own or from a food truck) and the nearby playgrounds.  read more

Get into the water and into nature at this introductory canoe day at the Chattahoochee Nature Center. Families  head to Beaver Pond to learn paddling techniques, play games and participate in races with expert guides.  read more

Alpharetta - June 25 & 26

Families head to Brooke Street Park in downtown Alpharetta for Art in the Park, which takes place one weekend per month from May-September. Visitors shop local, handcrafted art.  read more
