SANTA MONICA, CA — A new cocktail lounge is now open in Santa Monica. Canary, a modern cocktail lounge with tropical décor, opened last Friday and provides a "unique and sophisticated experience that will be the first of its kind to grace the rapidly changing landscape of downtown Santa Monica," the press release said.

Canary will be open Wednesdays through Fridays from 5 p.m. to close, and Saturdays from 8 p.m. to close. Sunday Jazz Nights with live performances to begin December 8.

"There’s a lot to be desired in terms of nightlife in downtown Santa Monica. It’s becoming way more affluent in the culinary scene, but there isn’t really a nice venue you can go to before or after dinner," Nas Negahban, of Pacific Hospitality Group, which owns Canary, said. "Canary will be a very elevated, upscale experience that nowhere else in town is offering. We’re going to bring live music, performances and DJ’s paired with our state of the art tropical decor and specialty cocktails to breathe new life into Santa Monica.

Celebrity mixologist Devon Espinosa created a unique specialty crafted menu of 11 tropical-inspired cocktails for Canary, with names such as "Fantasma," "La Frambuesa," "Angry Bird," and "Café Fria," among others, the press release said.

The Gran Canaria cocktail, which is named after the most popular sub-island in the Canary Islands, is made with rum, simple syrup, lemon passion fruit, yellow chartreuse, angostura and mint, served in a canary bird-shaped collins glass.

Canary will also have a roster of food trucks featuring a different option each night, such as tacos, burgers, stone oven pizzas, seafood and more.
