(WWJ) - Hand sanitizer is disappearing from local store shelves as people stock up on supplies to prevent getting infected with the coronavirus.

If you can't find hand sanitizer, you can actually make your own.

You might already have the necessary ingredients on hand and if not, you can find them at your local drug store. The DIY version might end up costing a bit more than buying hand sanitizer outright, but in a pinch it can help you avoid infection.

DIY Hand Sanitizer:

  • 2/3 cup rubbing alcohol (Isopropyl alcohol 91%)
  • 1/3 cup aloe vera gel
  • Mix ingredients together until well blended and pour into a sealed container, such as an empty squeeze bottle
  • Note: If you don't have rubbing alcohol, you can substitute 151 proof vodka
  • Optional: Stir in a couple drops of essential oil for a personalized scent
