12 Stories will arrive atop the Intercontinental Hotel

More details are emerging about the top-level bar coming to the Intercontinental Hotel at the Wharf. Representatives for the project tell Eater that the 12th-floor venue will be called 12 Stories and is expected to open by the end of April.

The industrial chic drinking destination comes from the Gerber Group, the company that owns trendy New York City hotel bar Mr. Purple and Grand Central’s reinvigorated Campbell Bar.

Last fall owner Scott Gerber announced plans to open a rooftop respite atop the same property that houses chef Kwame Onwuachi’s critically acclaimed Afro-Caribbean restaurant, Kith and Kin (801 Wharf Street SW).

The 3,500-square-foot space will boast wired pendulum lighting and lots of velvet, marble, and wood accents. Pop art signage that reads “Yes, Yes, Yes” lines the bar:

Industrial touches like concrete flooring are juxtaposed against soft accents like leather furniture and an antique mirror planted behind the U-shaped bar.

Towering 13-foot floor-to-ceiling windows offer direct views of the Jefferson, Lincoln and Air Force Memorials, as well as the top of the Washington Monument and Hains Point.

The indoor-outdoor layout includes a lounge, bench seating, and high-top tables.

Gerber tells Eater that drinks will be the star, and a sampling of Mr. Purple’s cocktails could appear in D.C. Think bottled sparkling Negroni or shareable Manhattans and Moscow Mules.

The food menu will be made up of bar bites like individual pizzas, burgers, soft pretzels, and hummus and veggies. The bar is projected to open daily at 4 p.m. and serve through last call.

12 Stories will maintain its own identity inside the hotel via an entrance on the ground floor to an elevator that shoots directly to the roof.
