San Francisco Reverses Plastic Bag Ban Due to COVID-19

The San Francisco Bay Area has long been at the forefront of environmental causes They were one of the first cities in the country to ban single-use plastic bags in 2007. But COVID-19 has forced people to evaluate problems through a different lens. San Francisco has decided that—in this instance—a temporary return to single-use bags is sensible. The city's choice may have more to do with appeasing rightfully worried frontline grocery workers. In this climate, it's hard to ask employees to handle items customers have brought from their own home. There will be plenty of time to debate plastic bag bans down the road, but right now it's better safe than sorry.
