U.K. reality star Megan McKenna, 24, told The Sun she was so upset by reported accusations on Instagram she was anorexic and a “skinny rat” that she had to respond to them. People began body-shaming McKenna this summer while she was filming her new series There’s Something About Megan, BuzzFeed reports.

"I did respond to one of them, as I was fuming,” she told The Sun: "No one knew what was wrong with me, so yes, I was thin as I was unwell." In her response, McKenna noted those bullying her "would never bully someone about being overweight but think it's acceptable to call [someone] anorexic." She also told commenters to "leave [her] alone."

McKenna has spoken publicly about being diagnosed with celiac and how that affects her life. She’s newly diagnosed with Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) though, and says she was in the hospital when she posted the pictures (above and below) that garnered the most negative reactions.

"I was so ill with my belly before I went to Nashville and I was in and out of the hospital and no one knew what was wrong with me, so yes I was thin as I was unwell,” she continued. "People need to realize I’m always going to have problems with this and not troll me ... it’s a serious thing and it’s life-changing.”

Anywhere from 25-45 million people suffer from IBS in the United States alone.
