Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo reached 99% capacity as of April 5, 2021. 

Michigan Department of Health and Human Services reported the hospital had 49 COVID-19 patients, and eight COVID-19 patients in the intensive care unit.

Ascension Borgess Hospital, a neighboring hospital in Kalamazoo, was at 77% capacity as of April 5, with 36 COVID-19 patients and 11 COVID-19 patients in the intensive care unit.

As of April 7, 3,373 Michigan adults with a positive COVID-19 test were hospitalized.

In a news briefing, state health officials said the percent of inpatient beds occupied by individuals with COVID-19 had increased 203% since the low on Feb. 28, 2021, at 11.9%.

Gov. Gretchen Whitmer said the key to ending the virus was to get shots into arms and ramp up vaccinations. 

As of April 7, state health officials said 36.7% of Michigan residents had at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, with 22.8% who completed their vaccinations, or 1,842,940 people.
