DEMING – Summit Healthcare at 722 E. Florida Street introduces Eduard Schander as the new board-certified nurse practitioner. He took over the patient register in mid-September for the previous owner Joel Stevens who moved out of town.  Schander was previously employed at Silver Health Urgent Care in Deming for the past two years.

“When this opportunity came about I decided this might be a good idea,” Schander said.

Schander was raised in Germany and completed his education at Penn State University. He later worked as an urgent care CNP in Dallas before coming to Deming to establish his practice.

In New Mexico, CNPs can provide a variety of health care needs, focusing on family practice and pediatrics. Diagnosis, prognosis and prescribing medications, referrals to specialty clinics all fall under the umbrella of a CNP’s job description.

In the past, Summit Healthcare primarily dealt in muscle and skeletal treatments under Stevens who first began as a chiropractor before earning his board-certified CNP. The business began offering a wide variety of health care needs during Steven’s tenure in one location. “We don’t do the chiropractic here anymore but with do provide joint injections and Migraine Botox,” Schander explained.

The emphasis now is on full family practice and the business is now set up as a walk-in clinic, with extended hours from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekdays and from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturdays. “If you have a minor issue that needs urgent care, you can come in here to see us,” Schander stated.

Pediatrics is also a point of emphasis at Summit Healthcare. Dr. James Dennemeyer, MD, will oversee pediatrics and has an extensive background of over 30 years as a board-certified pediatrician. He worked extensively in Tucson, AZ before landing at Silver Health Urgent Care where he met Schander.

“I really enjoy the patient clientele here in Deming,” Schander shared. “The patients are really nice, and I enjoy taking care of the patients here in Deming. They asked questions and we try to give them the best answers. Most people don’t like to come and see a doctor, but we try and give them a good experience.”

Preventative, primary care ailments that require maintenance and chronic pain can all be addressed at Summit Healthcare LLC.
