Over 4,000 new coronavirus cases reported, 4 new deaths in Volusia

Florida reported the highest single-day increase in coronavirus cases this month with 4,044 new cases Saturday, according to the state Department of Health.

This is the fourth time in October that daily new cases have exceeded 3,000.

The state now has a total of 752,481 coronavirus cases. Of those, 743,018 are Florida residents and 9,463 are non-residents.

The DOH announced 87 new coronavirus deaths statewide Saturday, bringing the Florida death toll to 15,917. Of that, 201 non-residents not included in the total have died of the virus. 

Four deaths were announced in Volusia County, bringing the total to 304, and no new deaths were announced in Flagler County.

The daily positivity rate, calculated by using the total number of people tested for the virus and the total number of people who have tested positive, was 5.19% Friday, the last time it was updated.

The overall positivity rate statewide was 13.18% Saturday, which exceeds the 10% target set nationwide to safely begin a phased re-opening.

As of Friday, 46,976 residents have been hospitalized with COVID-19 and 5,711,339 have been tested for the virus.

New cases: 27

Total cases: 1,931

Number of new cases in October: 218

Total number of hospitalizations: 158

Number of current hospitalizations: 6

Daily positivity rate: 4.25%

Overall positivity rate: 8.77%
