Two additional COVID-19 deaths reported by the Department of Health

The number of hospital beds occupied by patients testing positive for COVID-19 remained unchanged, the South Dakota Department of Health reported Wednesday, while two additional deaths were reported.

The deaths were both among men. One was in his 40s and the other was in his 70s.

Thirty-three hospital beds were in use for patients who had tested positive for coronavirus, the same as last week. Of those, there were three intensive care beds.

Active infections increased to 1,246, as 475 new cases were reported by the department. Daily average cases increased from 64 to 68.

The latest infections included 105 Minnehaha County residents and 31 in Lincoln County. Fifteen were from Brown County and 29 were from Codington County.

Nearly 83% of the state's eligible population has received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.
