First human case of West Nile virus of 2022 reported in New Mexico

The New Mexico Department of Health has reported the state's first human case of West Nile virus in 2022.

The Department of Health says the infected person from San Juan County required hospitalization and is recovering.

The virus is transmitted primarily by mosquitos and can sometimes be fatal.

The Department of Health says symptoms of West Nile virus include, headache, fever, muscle, joint aches, nausea and fatigue.
