New Delhi: Anxiety is a condition that most people have gone through. It is the body’s response to stress and there could be various factors that could make a person anxious. Being anxious sometimes is good, however, it could also lead to disorders such as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), separation anxiety and phobia among several others.

There are treatments available for anxiety and you should choose the best one for you. Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) is one such option which can help people cope with anxiety, medications are another form of treatment that doctors prescribe. However, natural remedies could also help you cope with anxiety; changes in your diet, lifestyle and sleep can have a positive impact. Here are a few natural remedies and coping tips that will help you beat anxiety.

  1. Limit the consumption of caffeine. Excess consumption of caffeine can make you jittery and nervous, both of which can add to your anxiety. Replace it with beverages that don’t have caffeine in them such as herbal teas.
  2. Stay away from alcohol. Like caffeinated drinks, alcohol too can be a cause of anxiety and panic attacks and it is best that you avoid this. When you drink alcohol, it might create an imbalance of the neurotransmitters which might eventually lead to anxiety.
  3. Exercise regularly. When you perform exercises or do some sort of physical activity, it can be beneficial for your mental health. Also, exercising can help to divert your attention from something that might make you anxious. It is also not necessary that you perform high-intensity exercises, you could practice anything that you enjoy.
  4. Get a good night’s sleep. Sleep is important for your body as well as your mental health. When you get a good night’s sleep, it can make you feel less tired and fatigued. Along with that, a good night’s sleep helps you to fight anxiety.
