At Matty Bovan, Bold Eye Makeup Gets a Playful Punk Twist

Matty Bovan’s buoyant aesthetics are not for the faint of heart. From a vivid array of colorways to mind-expanding silhouettes to accessories designed to distort attendees’ views of the traditional runway show—see: spring 2020’s magnifying masks—the designer knows how to have fun with styling. Today in London, that ethos translated to a parade of punkish, puckish models with eyes framed in graphic eyeshadow in shades of hot pink and cream.

Alongside hair defined by layered lengths and full-face fringe, makeup artist Miranda Joyce stenciled gazes with an array of geometrics, such as rectangles of saturated pink interspersed with ovals of alabaster. The result was a cadre of playful models, their irreverent spirits enhanced by makeup bold enough to hold their own amid Bovan’s exaggerated ensembles. Just add a ribbon tied at chin-level and a ready, devilish grin, and you’ve got an above-neck cocktail designed for a Bovan muse.
