Prince William and Kate Middleton's visit to Boston had a number of personal and professional highlights, from Kate's early-education discussions at Harvard University to William's spearheading of the second annual Earthshot Prize awards ceremony.

During these important engagements, the royals—who were visiting the U.S. after an eight-year absence and for the first time since becoming Prince and Princess of Wales—delighted fans with a number of PDA (public display of affection) moments.

This is not the first time that the couple have been demonstratively affectionate while on a royal tour. In March 2022, despite being overshadowed by anti-monarchy and reparations protests, the couple were equally as loved-up during their tour of the Caribbean.

Here, Newsweek looks at some of William and Kate's best Boston PDAs, including an intimate viral moment that prompted one social-media user to comment that the prince "could not keep his hand off" his wife.

United Welcome: Logan International Airport, November 30

As William and Kate arrived in Boston on November 30, they flew in during one of the biggest royal race storms, where a senior member of the royal household—who also happened to be the prince's godmother—was accused of holding a racially insensitive conversation with a charity boss at a Buckingham Palace event in London.

The staffer, later identified as Lady Susan Hussey, resigned from her honorary position as a "Lady of the Household" as a result, but the ensuing media coverage threatened to overshadow the royals' U.S. visit.

The new Prince and Princess of Wales showed no sign that the palace events in London had affected them when they made their first appearance at Logan International Airport, to be greeted by Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker and his wife, Lauren Schadt.

The pair were photographed smiling into each other's eyes as they met the waiting press pack, setting a tone they would keep up throughout the visit.

Guiding the Way: Boston City Hall, November 30

For their first engagement of the royal visit, William and Kate met with Mayor Michelle Wu at Boston City Hall for a "Welcome to Earthshot" event, kicking off the countdown to the awards show two days later.

William delivered an opening speech, which he opened with the remarks:

"Catherine and I are delighted to be back in the United States and are extremely grateful to Governor Baker and The First Lady of Massachusetts for their warm welcome into Boston."

As the pair made their way from the stage, the prince placed his hand on his wife's back, in an intimate gesture that has been repeated on previous engagements.

Courtside Hand Holding: TD Garden Arena, November 30

When William and Kate visited New York City eight years ago, they paid a visit to Barclays Center, where they watched a Cleveland Cavaliers vs. Brooklyn Nets game.

In Boston, the couple watched the Celtics play off against the Miami Heat team, winning 134 to 121 points.

While courtside, the couple were photographed hand-in-hand as they spoke to the spectators and invited guests seated nearby. Later in the game, Kate was also seen resting her hand on her husband's knee.

However, the royal couple did not face the prospect of participating in a "kiss cam" moment.

Couple on the Green Carpet: Earthshot Prize Awards, December 2

The evening of the Earthshot Prize awards ceremony formed the apex of the royal visit to Boston, hosted at the MGM Music Hall at Fenway.

For the occasion, Kate wore a figure-hugging, apple-green rented evening gown and a diamond-and-emerald necklace previously worn by Princess Diana. William dressed in a velvet evening jacket, and the couple hit the "green carpet" also walked by a number of A-list celebrities.

As the couple started their carpet walk, photographers captured a number of shots of William's husbandly gesture of placing his hand on the small of Kate's back. These shots won the admiration of the couple's fans, becoming widely shared on social media.

'Can Not Keep His Hand Off:' Earthshot Prize Awards, December 2

After the Earthshot Prize event, a number of photos and video footage from inside the MGM Music Hall were posted online. In one clip that has since gone viral, being viewed nearly half-a-million times on Twitter, the prince and princess are sitting at their table, with William affectionately touching his wife.

One Twitter user reposted the video with the caption: "We were all mesmerized by Catherine, Princess of wales on friday. But When I tell you, Prince William was the one who was the most affected! 🤭 He simply could not keep his hand off her body. Please let her sit! 😂😍🔥"

The couple will celebrate their 12th wedding anniversary in April after they began dating in 2003. They have three children: Prince George, 9; Princess Charlotte, 7; and Prince Louis, 4.
