CHARLESTOWN, RI — Animal shelters usually see an increase in lost dogs in the days following Fourth of July since pets are scared by fireworks and run away. Late Friday night, a worker at Charlestown Town Beach found an unexpected lost pet in the sand—someone's lost hamster.

Jonathan Warga reported the missing rodent to the Rhode Island Lost Pet Locator Facebook page early Saturday morning.

"You never know what you're gonna find working the night shift at a state beach!" Warga wrote.

The brown, tan and white hamster was found by a little girl on the beach, and given to him, Warga said.

If you lost your hamster in the Charlestown Beach area, reach out to Warga directly. If no one comes forward to claim the hamster, Warga said he will offer it to the little girl who found it, and if she does not want it, keep it himself.
