Roborock has already made vacuuming and mopping the house fairly effortless thanks to its S7 smart robot vacuum cleaner. And its latest product, the Auto-Empty Dock, removes yet another step from the tedium of keeping a home tidy.

Designed specifically to pair with the S7, the Roborock Auto-Empty Dock is a charging base and dust/debris receptacle that extends the time between your visits to the trash can.

I had a chance to experience this all-new accessory thanks to Roborock, and found it to be a meaningful investment that really leans into why people get robot vacuums in the first place: because we want this chore to be as autonomous as possible!

Just like the S7, Roborock’s Auto-Empty Dock is really easy to set up and operate. Simply attach the base to the main unit and plug it in — that’s it! A multi-stage filtration system and anti-bacterial dust bag are pre-installed. With everything in place, my S7 automatically detected the Auto-Empty Dock as its new home base.

To prepare the S7 for its new Auto-Empty Dock lifestyle, I had to remove an airway cover (I always wondered what that airway was for!) and install a new dustbin that came with the AED. Now, when the S7 docks, whatever is in its dustbin automatically gets drawn into the AED’s dust bag. Essentially, a vacuum is vacuuming the vacuum robot. Ha!

Roborock claims that this dust bag can hold up to eight weeks of dust and debris, but of course, that will vary based on the size of your home and how frequently your robot vacuum runs. They’ve also included algorithms for the Auto-Empty Dock that can adjust emptying based on the duration of the cleaning run, frequency, time of day, and other factors to seamlessly integrate into your routine.

Thoughtful Design and Performance

After the Auto-Empty Dock did its thing, I checked the dustbin of the S7 just to see how well it emptied. To my surprise, it was very clean, almost new looking. It was definitely better than what I could achieve by shaking and tapping it over a trash can, which is literally what I used to have to do.

Because the Auto-Empty Dock essentially vacuums out the S7’s dustbin, it features an advanced filtration system to prevent dust leaks during the emptying process. The dust bag also seals itself when you go to change it to prevent particles from accidentally escaping.

Speaking of dust bags, I had flashbacks to my struggles with bagged vacuums back in the day, but I’m happy to report that the AED’s bag installs with the same ease of inserting a credit card into a reader.

Roborock’s app can be used to control everything, including manually emptying the S7. If you have a large house that causes the S7’s dustbin to fill up quickly, you can create a custom schedule in the app that directs the vacuum to clean half the space, dock to empty, then clean the remaining space.

Overall, I think Roborock’s Auto-Empty Dock complements the S7 very well. I got a robot vacuum because I wanted to turn a consistent household chore into an infrequent one, and this new dock makes it so my attention and maintenance is even less required than before.
