‘No-Phone Brunches' Could Save Your Friendships

a person sitting at a table with a plate of food © Twenty20 You know to drill: You get to brunch, catch up on Kim's latest drama, get the low-down on that wedding Becky went to last weekend, then all of a sudden...everywhere you look there's someone texting on their iPhone. "Um, hello, we're all right here?! Who are you guys even texting?" you think (OK, probably yell out loud) furiously. And, yet, somehow, ironically absorbed in Instagrams of other people's brunches and Snapchats from barely-known acquaintances, it seems your pleas fall on deaf ears.

Our favorite solution (offered up by a friend in the hospitality industry): Everyone puts their phones in the middle of the table until the end of the meal, and the first person to touch their device has to pay the bill. Of course, it doesn't have to be brunch..this trick will work for literally any meal where "phubbing," aka phone snubbing, becomes an issue.

So, no-phone brunch this weekend? You bring the hot gossip, we'll forget the phone.
