OK ranks #2 for teacher pay gap, study says

OKLAHOMA CITY (KOKH) - According to a new report bu SmartestDollar, teachers in the United States are making 15.7% less than all full-time workers with a bachelor's degree or higher.

Researchers at Smartest Dollar ranked states according to the pay gap between teachers and all full-time workers with bachelor’s degrees.

According to SmartestDollar, median annual earnings for teachers is just over $59,000, while median earnings for full-time bachelor’s degree holders is $70,000.

Out of all U.S. states, Oklahoma has the 2nd largest teacher pay gap.

Findings for Oklahoma:

  • Teacher pay gap: -29.1%
  • Median annual earnings for teachers: $39,717
  • Median annual earnings for all full-time bachelor’s degree holders: $56,000
  • Cost of Living: 11.6% below average

Findings for the United States:

  • Teacher pay gap: -15.7%
  • Median annual earnings for teachers: $59,019
  • Median annual earnings for all full-time bachelor’s degree holders: $70,000
