It's unclear what stores face eventual closures.

More than a dozen Foot Locker and Champs Sports locations in Minnesota face an uncertain future after their parent company announced it will close hundreds of stores nationwide.

Foot Locker, Inc. announced in a recent meeting that it intends to close 400 Foot Locker stores and 125 Champs Sports stores as part of its future plans.

While a list of store closures hasn't been released at this time, Foot Locker CEO Mary Dillon said the stores set to close will mostly be "underperforming" mall locations, which represent about 10% of the sneaker chain's total sales.

It intends to "relaunch" its core Foot Locker brand, creating 300 new store formats away from existing malls that includes 15,000 sq. ft. "community stores" focused on sneakers; 10,000 sq. ft. "power stores" focused on a broader array of consumers; and 7,500 sq. ft. "house of play stores" focused on kids.

The closures are expected to be completed by 2026.

Minnesota has a total of six Foot Locker stores and seven Champs Sports locations operating as of Thursday. Of them, all but one location (Foot Locker in Brooklyn Center) are found inside malls. One Foot Locker inside the Burnsville Center is listed as "temporarily closed," according to its website.
