New Sheetz with drive-thru proposed for Southside Bethlehem logo 10/11/2022 Connor Lagore, The Express-Times

While many would argue the Lehigh Valley is Wawa territory, Bethlehem could be adding a location of Wawa’s biggest rival.

A new Sheetz is being proposed for the eastern part of Bethlehem’s Southside. The gas station and convenience store combo will potentially fill a vacant lot at 1720 East Fourth Street between Emery Street and Lynn Avenue. The company is asking the Bethlehem Zoning Hearing Board for a zoning variance in two weeks.

The 78,000-square-foot lot would include 55 parking spaces, six two-sided gas pumps and the convenience store, which measures 6,139 square feet, according to the plans listed on the city’s website.

The proposed Sheetz will also have a drive-thru lane.

Sheetz needs a variance to allow for parking spaces between East Fourth Street and the convenience store building. The city prohibits off-street parking spaces between a building and an arterial street in industrial redevelopment districts.

The zoning board meeting is scheduled for Oct. 26.
