Stop & Shop is adding more locations to its grocery Pick-up service this year and has boosted its e-commerce operations, the supermarket said on Wednesday.

Online ordering has skyrocketed for supermarkets during the coronavirus pandemic as some shoppers seek to avoid stores.

In New Jersey, Pick-up is offered at 12 Stop & Shop stores and was recently expanded to stores in Toms River and Middletown. Customers place an order on, head to the store and an associate will load their groceries into their car.

The company is adding it to 24 New Jersey stores this year, including locations in Point Pleasant, Brick, Whiting, Neptune City, and Keyport. The other spots in New Jersey are in Clifton, Sparta, Berkley Heights, Emerson, Morris Plains, Bayonne, Flemington, Ridgewood, Piscataway, South Orange, Berkeley Heights, Lyndhurst, Dumont, Pennington, Pompton Plains, Basking Ridge and West Caldwell.

Stop & Shop is adding three new "warerooms," which are e-commerce fulfillment centers typically attached to a store, to its network of 21 in its region. None are in New Jersey. The move will increase its e-commerce capacity, the company said.

The company also is expanding its partnership with Instacart to 321 locations, making grocery delivery available from more than 75 percent of its stores.

"With the increased demand we’ve seen over the last several months, it’s more important than ever that we deliver improved digital solutions and online fulfillment for our customers to shop for the food and other groceries they need," said Gordon Reid, president of Stop & Shop, in a statement.
