Ready to trade in your child's car seat? Target has got you. Its popular car seat trade-in event returns Sunday.

For two weeks – from Sunday through Sept. 25 – Target stores will accept and recycle all types of car seats, including infant seats, convertible seats, car seat bases, harness or booster seats even if they are damaged or expired, the retailer announced on its website.

In exchange for the old seat, customers will get a coupon for 20% off a new car seat, car seat base, travel system, stroller or select baby home gear, which includes playards, high chairs, swings, rockers and bouncers.

Coupons, which are added to the Target app, can be applied to in-store and online purchases through Oct. 2.

In past years, shoppers brought the seats to guest services and were handed a paper coupon. But last September amid the pandemic, Target moved to a more contactless process.

Now after dropping the seats in a designated box at the front of stores, consumers get a digital coupon when they scan a code using the Target app on their mobile device. A free Target Circle account is needed.

According to Target, since its first car seat trade-in program in April 2016, 22.2 million pounds of car seats have been recycled by Waste Management.
