Weld County oil spills for Oct. 11
Oct. 12—The following spills were reported to the Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission in the past two weeks.
Information is based on Form 19, which operators must fill out detailing the leakage/spill events. Any spill release that may impact waters of the state must be reported as soon as practical. Spills and leaks typically are found during routine maintenance on existing wells, though some actual "spills" do occur among the 18,000-plus wells in the county.
— CRESTONE PEAK RESOURCES OPERATING LLC reported Oct. 5 a historical tank battery spill near Weld County Road 49 and 24 3/4, about 9 miles northwest of Keenesburg. An unknown amount of oil and produced water spilled. Historic impacts were found beneath the produced water vault during an environmental site assessment at the tank battery.
— PDC ENERGY INC reported Oct. 4 a historical flowline spill near Weld 257 and 52, about 4 miles north of Johnstown. An unknown amount of oil spilled. A historic release was found during plugging and abandonment.
— PDC ENERGY INC reported Sept. 29 a historical spill near U.S. 34 and Weld 69, about 9 miles southeast of Kersey. An unknown amount of produced water spilled. A historic release was found at the tank battery.
