MORRISTOWN, NJ — Boomerang Fitness faced an uncertain future because of the coronavirus. But once the community stepped up to help keep it in business, owner Matthew Conner decided to pay it forward.

Conner did that by running, and running, and running. The gym owner ran 60 miles around the Morristown Green on Saturday to raise money for the Movember Foundation. That's 240 laps around the quarter-mile green.

Like many gym owners, Conner faced obstacles because of coronavirus restrictions. He received a grant through the Morristown Partnership.

"I learned that the grant money had come from multiple private citizens whom had come forward to help small businesses like my own," he said. "This was a light-switch moment for me — people who did not know me or my business stepping forward to help."

The Movember Foundation raises money for several men's health issues, such as suicide prevention and prostate and testicular cancer. This year, the organization called on people to complete physical challenges to raise money.

And Conner picked quite the challenge.

"I often say it is easy to stay positive, motivated, and kind when life is looking sunny and bright," he said. "One’s true test of character comes when faced with a storm."
