State government in Maryland struggling with worker shortage
Maryland state government is struggling with a worker shortage just like businesses and companies. State personnel officials on Friday briefed a House committee on the scope of the problem and what is being done about it. Analysts said the vacancy rate is high and is a financial burden that's impacting services. COVID-19, retirements, the great resignation and a lack of qualified applicants are contributing to a statewide worker shortage -- and Maryland residents are suffering the consequences.
