Todd Howard has said that the team at Bethesda met up with billionaire Elon Musk and the people at SpaceX in order to prepare for the development of Starfield. Although Skyrim is still going strong to this day, despite coming out in 2011, it's safe to assume that many fans are now waiting for Bethesda to release its highly anticipated space RPG. Not only is it a departure from the fantasy titles and more contemporary Fallout releases the studio is known for, it also represents the first brand-new IP from the developer in a quarter of a century.

Given that Bethesda rose to fame through its Elder Scrolls series, many are likely feeling that the upcoming sci-fi title will offer something similar, just with a deep space setting. However, Xbox's Matt Booty says Starfield will be more than just a reskin of Skyrim. In any case, fans are excited to see what the Maryland-based developer has in store. Given that Starfield is based around science fiction, it seems only fitting that the team would seek out some advice, and that's what Howard has been discussing recently.

A recent interview with Howard has revealed that Bethesda met up with SpaceX and its CEO Elon Musk to get some inspiration for Starfield. The Elder Scrolls director and executive producer says he was "in awe" at what he saw inside the spacecraft manufacturer, adding that it was like "Avengers meets NASA." It seems pretty evident from the video that Howard was blown away by what the team was shown and what he himself learned. Though he goes on to admit that he doesn't understand the behind-the-scenes approaches to space flight, it's clear that the visit at least partially inspired Starfield. The discussion begins around the 1:07:00 mark.

Speaking of the SpaceX chief executive, Elon Musk has been making waves since taking over Twitter, with the initial acquisition beginning in April 2022 and finalizing at the end of October. Musk himself has spoken about his love of video games in the past, so it's not too surprising that he would be willing to meet up with Bethesda in preparation for an upcoming space RPG.

Starfield is said to feature over 1,000 planets, which will likely make it the studio's biggest game to date. Unfortunately, there's no indication of when it will actually be releasing. The current proposed launch window is within the first half of 2023, but seeing as Starfield was supposed to be out by now, fans are having to wait even longer.
