Grange Insurance Co. is donating $1 million to help combat the impact of coronavirus.

The Columbus-based insurer announced Tuesday that it is giving the money over the next few months through its Grange Insurance Gives Foundation.

The donations will start with $100,000 to each of six groups, all but one of them in central Ohio:

  • Community Shelter Board, which works to prevent homelessness and provide housing for those in need.
  • LifeCare Alliance, which assists the elderly and the medically challenged with nutrition and in-home services.
  • St. Stephen's Community House, which provides a range of services to its community, including crisis support.
  • United Way of Central Ohio, which operates a COVID-19 community response fund to help those hit hardest by the virus.
  • YWCA Columbus, which provides shelter and support for women, in addition to other services.
  • United Way Fox Cities, in recognition of Grange's affiliate, Integrity Insurance in Appleton, Wisconsin.

The remaining $400,000 will be distributed over the next few months to nonprofit groups "serving on the front lines of this crisis," according to a Grange news release.

"As our communities continue to be impacted by this pandemic, our nonprofit organizations need our support now more than ever as the demand grows for critical basic services like food, shelter, and physical and mental health and safety," John Ammendola, Grange Insurance president and CEO said in the release.
