A pedestrian was struck and killed on Interstate 65 early Wednesday morning, according to Louisville Metro Police.

About 6:40 a.m. Jan. 12, LMPD responded to a vehicle collision on I-65 northbound at the St. Catherine Street overpass.

There they found that a man walking on the interstate was struck and injured by a vehicle traveling northbound. He was taken to University Hospital where he later died of his injuries.

There were significant traffic delays due to several of the northbound lanes of Interstate 65 being closed as emergency response crews dealt with the situation.

The crash resulted in a second vehicle collision as well. There is no report if that resulted in injury or not.

The LMPD Traffic Unit is investigating, and at this time there are no charges expected.
