Work for specific employers

In recent weeks, momentum has grown among businesses to mandate vaccination for all employees.

The list of such companies is long, and seemingly ever-growing. Here is a small sample of large employers telling most or all of their workers to get vaccinated — or else:

  • Amtrak
  • Bank of America
  • Chevron
  • Facebook
  • Google
  • Johnson & Johnson
  • McDonald’s
  • Microsoft

Travel to specific countries

Some countries are telling unvaccinated folks to stay home. For example, Finland recently said that travelers arriving from Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Canada cannot enter the country unless they are fully vaccinated. That is because those nations are logging higher numbers of coronavirus infections.

Closer to home, Canada recently reopened its border — but is welcoming only Americans who have been vaccinated for at least 14 days and test negative for the coronavirus.

This week, several travel sites are reporting that the Czech Republic is temporarily banning unvaccinated Americans from visiting. Higher infection rates in the U.S. appear to have triggered the decision.

Attend a Broadway play

Unvaccinated status is a showstopper on Broadway. Late in July, the Broadway League announced that all 41 Broadway theaters in New York City are requiring that audience members be vaccinated.

All members of productions — from performers to the backstage crew — also must have submitted to the jab.

Enjoy other forms of fun in NYC

If you are unvaccinated, a bite of the Big Apple is likely to leave a sour taste in your mouth.

New York City now requires proof of vaccination for you to enjoy indoor dining, entertainment and fitness facilities. The policy began on Aug. 17 but will not enforced until Sept. 13.

Serve in the military

Earlier this week, Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin III directed that all U.S. service members be subject to mandatory COVID-19 vaccinations.

The Aug. 24 memo requires full vaccination of all active-duty members, as well as those in the National Guard or Ready Reserve.

Attend a Raiders home game

If you are an unvaccinated fan of the Las Vegas Raiders, expect to watch this season’s games from home. The NFL team has announced that all attendees at home games need to show proof of COVID-19 vaccination.

Those who are unvaccinated will be able to receive vaccinations on-site at Allegiant Stadium prior to games. Taking advantage of this opportunity allows you to enter the stadium and watch the game while wearing a mask.

Attend specific colleges

Some students who are unvaccinated are doomed to flunk the first test of the college school year: getting into the classroom in the first place.

At least two institutions — Ohio State University and the entire State University of New York (SUNY) system — have declared that all students must be vaccinated to attend classes this academic year.

Ohio State has established deadlines for both the first (Oct. 15) and second (Nov. 15) vaccine shots. SUNY is offering “a grace period of up to 35 days.” SUNY also will review requests for exemptions to vaccination based on religious or medical reasons, while Ohio State says “a limited set of exemptions will be approved on a case-by-case basis.”

Enjoy fun in San Francisco

Like New York City, San Francisco is limiting access to fun activities if you are unvaccinated. The city says all restaurants, bars, clubs, gyms and large indoor events must obtain proof of vaccination from both patrons and employees.

East Coast, West Coast and everywhere in-between, life is getting more difficult for those who remain unvaccinated.
