WALNUT CREEK, CA — Would loosening Walnut Creek regulations on accessory dwelling units — also known as in-law quarters, casitas, or granny flats — lessen the shortage of affordable housing while providing an income stream to homeowners? Or would it be a nuisance to neighbors, or potentially open nice neighborhood to horrors like Orinda experienced on Halloween night at an AirBNB?

You have time to gather your thoughts, facts, and arguments as the Walnut Creek City Council prepares to tackle the issue.

Next Tuesday, Jan. 21, councilmembers will consider an urgency ordinance regarding accessory dwelling units in Walnut Creek. The city needs to reconcile local zoning regulations with a new state law.

The meeting starts at City Hall at 6 p.m.
