Sports Radio Host Colin Cowherd Seeks Manhattan Beach Sale

Sports media personality Colin Cowherd plans to move on from his comfortably plush home in Manhattan Beach, Calif., which has popped up for sale at a whiff under $7 million. The occasionally controversial 50-something-year-old sports authority was nixed from ESPN in 2015 in the aftermath of statements he made about Dominican Republic players but quickly found a new home for his popular program, “The Herd with Colin Cowherd,” on Fox Sports Radio and Fox Sports 1.

Cowherd and his wife Ann Cowherd, who combined have six children from previous marriages, purchased the Craftsman-meets-Cape-Cod-style residence not even 2.5 years ago for a tetch more than $6.5 million. Listings held by Lauren Forbes at Compass show the nearly 6,000-square-foot home was designed by local architect Louie Tomaro with decorative finishes by West Hollywood-based designer Paul L’Esperance.

Prominently sited on a corner lot in the “Tree Section” area of the casually affluent and forbiddingly expensive beach community, the classically clapboard-clad home sits amid sculpted plantings with hand-finished whitewashed brick accents. A deep, wrap-around porch provides treetop views across the neighborhood and the three-story spread packs in five and potentially six bedrooms and five full and two half bathrooms along with spacious open-plan living and entertaining spaces.

Public spaces include a piano lounge just inside the front door, a double-height living room with a white marble fireplace and a generous dining area with a built-in buffet. An adjoining but separate and more family oriented great room comprises a deluxe kitchen, a backyard-view breakfast nook and a family room complete with a second white marble fireplace. A huge wall of windows opens the room to the backyard. The main floor is completed by an en-suite guest bedroom, a home office and a powder room.

In addition to garage parking for four cars, the semi-subterranean lower level includes another en suite bedroom for guests or staff and a second powder room, plus a state-of-the-art home theater and an entertainment lounge complete with walk-in wine cellar and wet bar.

Two family bedrooms on the upper level share a Jack ‘n’ Jill bath, while a spacious primary suite incorporates a fireplace, a balcony, two dressing rooms and two bathrooms, one quite small and the other much larger.

The backyard isn’t especially big but squeezes in a couple of patios, one sheltered by a fine draped pergola, a slim strip of evergreen faux-grass and a rectangular swimming pool set against a tiled wall topped by a verdant wall of hedging.

Tax records indicate the Cowherds also maintain a six-bedroom contemporary getaway with wrap-around mountain views in an exclusive guard-gated enclave in the Rocky Mountain resort town of Park City, Utah, that they scooped up in late 2017 for an unrecorded sum.
