Mel Gibson welcomed his ninth son, Lars, with girlfriend Rosalind Ross, 28, in January 2017.

And on Saturday, the glamorous couple enjoyed a rare night out at the Art Of Elysium 'Heaven' Gala in Los Angeles.

Mel, 63, cut a dashing figure in a black tuxedo while rocking a striking salt and pepper beard and moustache.

Grinning for the cameras, he kept a protective hand on his girlfriend's lower back as the pair posed on the black carpet.

Writer Rosalind stunned in a flowing burgundy gown boasting plunging neckline.

Flaunting a hint of thigh through a tasteful slit in her dress, the mum-of-one rocked a dewy complexion while her dark locks cascaded past her shoulders.

Meanwhile the two-time Oscar winner, who returned home to Sydney last year to scout locations for upcoming WWII epic, Destroyer, showed off the results of an impressive 14kg weight loss.

Mel dropped the pounds last year thanks to the help of a Perth fitness coach.

Speaking to New Idea in October, Samantha Jackson revealed how she helped the Braveheart star lose his 'dad bod' belly fat with regular phone consultations.

'We swap about 30 texts a day and FaceTime a couple of times a week,' explained the mother-of-two.

She added: 'He's thrilled the weight is off. He's lost 27cm around his belly.'

Sam met Mel by chance in a Sydney restaurant four months ago and told him she could help him shift his 'middle-aged spread' by giving him tips on nutrition and exercise.

The pair exchanged numbers and communicated by text and FaceTime to achieve Mel's weight loss goals.

In a video posted to YouTube, Mel and Sam discussed their chance encounter and how it led to the actor's physical transformation.

Mel said: 'I was bemoaning the fact that I couldn't get rid of my 'spare tyre'. Now, all my clothes fit and my back doesn't hurt anymore. I sleep better. It was pretty miraculous.

'I feel good, really healthy. You're eating more often, but better. And drinking protein shakes every day. Work out a little. Got more energy to work out.'

Mel has seven children with his first wife Robyn Moore; daughter Hannah, and six sons Edward, Christian, William, Louis, Milo, and Thomas.

He and Robyn were married 31 years, from 1980 to 2011, though they separated in 2006. He also has a daughter, Luca, eight, with Russian pianist Oksana Grigorieva.
