The X-Men have once again risen to become arguably Marvel Comics' biggest franchise in comic books. Their renewed popularity comes, of course, due to the revitalization of the line with Jonathan Hickman's 'Dawn of X' revamp - which has now segued to the next era, 'Reign of X.'

Fresh off the culmination of the 'X of Swords' crossover event, the mutants of Krakoa are entering a new stage that sees them delve further into X-Men lore - and also possibly, begins to brush up against Marvel's other big franchises.

On the horizon is a new X-Men title and franchise debuting in March: Way of X, starring Nightcrawler on a bit of a vision quest to find religion for mutantkind.

Marvel has also begun a multi-pronged effort to have classic X-Men creators return and revisit their most famous storylines - Fabian Nicieza revisiting the mystery of the third Summers brother in X-Men: Legends, Chris Claremont writing new tie-in stories to both 'Days of Future Past' and his Wolverine limited series, and Louise and Walt Simonson prepping to revisit their classic X-Factor run.

And Hickman has said this 'Reign of X' era is about expansion, with big plans in 2021 for Storm and the decision to take the teased X-Corp series off the backburner and back in development.

"In addition to those, we do have a couple of surprise books that we’re going to be springing on you, and a few new creators coming into the office that everyone is very excited about," Hickman said. "They’ll be working on titles and stories that we feel fit in perfectly into this idea of the line. It’s going to be a pretty interesting 2021, I think."

And that's not to mention the numerous new X-Men collections coming out at almost a weekly clip, putting recent arcs all in one place and, in some cases, bringing back in print storylines that haven't been available for years.
