Daisy Ridley sparks speculation about her Star Wars return as Rey after meeting with Lucasfilm and teasing it on social media. Ever since the conclusion of the Skywalker Saga and Disney's Star Wars trilogy with Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, there has been interest within the fandom to see some Rey Skywalker, Finn, and Poe Dameron return. The movie's ending directly set up Rey to have a big part to play in the future of the galaxy far, far away. So far, nothing has been announced by Lucasfilm to indicate that Daisy Ridley's return as Rey is on the horizon, but that has not decreased interest in her return.

Renewed speculation around Daisy Ridley's Star Wars return began again on December 1, 2022, when the actress posted an image of Lucasfilm HQ on her Instagram story. The photo showed Yoda's statue in the building and was not accompanied by any text from the Rey actress. This led fans to speculate wildly that Daisy Ridley just hinted at her playing Rey again in an upcoming Star Wars project. After a few hours of the speculation circulating online, the actress shared an update that it was simply a lunch visit at Lucasfilm and that there is "nothing saucy happening" in regards to her future.

Daisy Ridley Must Return As Rey For Future Star Wars Movies

Neither Daisy Ridley nor Lucasfilm might be prepared to announce plans for Rey's return in future Star Wars movies, but that must be part of the studio's long-term plans. She was the main character of the most recent trilogy and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker's ending set her up to play an even bigger role going forward. With her new yellow lightsaber, taking the Skywalker name, and plans to rebuild the Jedi Order, Lucasfilm cannot let Rey's story end there. Daisy Ridley has remained open to returning for more Star Wars movies, and that should be one of Lucasfilm's priorities considering how popular of a character Rey is.

Lucasfilm is currently developing several new films in the Star Wars franchise, but none are confirmed to involve Rey or any other actors from the recent trilogy. A new film from Damon Lindelof could potentially bring back some sequel trilogy actors, but that would be in supporting or cameo capacities. Daisy Ridley could return there as a way to let audiences know that Rey is still around and active. However, she deserves another chance to be at the center of a major story, whether that be Star Wars 10 and a new trilogy co-starring John Boyega and Oscar Isaac or a Disney+ series specifically about Rey.

Whenever Daisy Ridley's Star Wars return does happen, it will be fascinating to see what position she is in. The big mysteries about her life were answered by Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker's ending, meaning her story can now focus on the future, not the past. Plenty of fans hope a meeting between Rey and Grogu is part of the Star Wars movie future. Since the franchise's future is mostly a blank slate, Daisy Ridley could be able to have significant input with Lucasfilm about what she wants to see whenever it is time for Rey to return for more Star Wars movies.
