Ford originated the character of the intrepid adventurer in 1981‘s excellent Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark.

He reprised the role a few more times, in 1984’s underrated Temple of Doom, along with The Last Crusade five years later, opposite the late, great Sean Connery.

The actor starred in a fourth go-round of the Indy series in 2008, but the film, titled Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, was considerably less successful than its predecessors.

Fans have nonetheless been clamoring for another chapter for years, and franchise creators George Lucas and Steven Spielberg announced the project in 2016.

The big question will be, who will bring new blood to the series, now that Ford is at least as old as Connery was when the latter played his father in The Last Crusade.

While Shia LaBeouf attempted to serve that purpose in 2008's ill-begotten Crystal Skull, it's safe to say that the filmmakers behind the project are hard at work finding just the right fit for the actor or actress to share screen time with their main star.
