Iron Man Can Match She-Hulk's Strength with One Epic Move

Tony Stark's Iron Man has always stood at the forefront of technology, but it takes something truly special to measure up to the Jade Giantess known as She-Hulk. Tony IS capable of taking Jennifer Walters down at peak power, but it's a feat that requires him to push himself to shocking extremes.

With legendary suits of armor like the Hulkbuster and Thorbuster, Iron Man is no stranger to heavy artillery built with the sole purpose of taking down Earth's mightiest heroes. It has, however, usually been the case that his primary suit of armor is not up for the job when it comes to taking down these figures of mythic proportion. However, on the worst day in Avengers history, Iron Man managed to take out a rampaging She-Hulk, even though it took everything he had to do it.

In the classic Avengers Disassembled by Brian Michael Bendis, David Finch, and other creators, She-Hulk is caught up in Scarlet Witch's reality-altering breakdown, destroying Vision and then turning on the other Avengers. Iron Man is able to knock her out, but it was later confirmed this was only possible because of the lengths he went to in order to enhance the strength of his punch. In What If? Avengers Disassembled Volume 1 written by Jeff Parker and drawn by Aaron Lopresti, the Avengers investigate the horrifying attack, and it's confirmed that Iron Man had to accelerate across the entire length of Manhattan - over 13 miles - to land the decisive blow. While the story takes place in an alternate timeline, it's one in which the Avengers have the same powers and limits, and is one of the most concrete measurements of Tony's max strength offered in action.

Iron Man Has Hulk Strength With Enough Speed

This feat of power is significant because it provides a demonstration of Iron Man's on-demand power reserves. Even a Hulk-strength punch isn't enough to down a Hulk in one - as proved by all the times She-Hulk and Hulk have mixed it up with the Abomination. She-Hulk is at her most powerful in this rage-consumed moment, and yet Iron Man takes her down in a single shot, revealing that with more than ten miles of acceleration behind him, Tony Stark strikes with a power more familiar from Marvel's gods than even its most accomplished inventors. What's tragic is that he unleashes this power against a friend.

The measures Tony has to take to match She-Hulk show how strong Jennifer Walters is when she loses control, as well as Iron Man's capabilities when the chips are down. Tony Stark has built countless variations of his Hulkbuster armor, usually with little success at actually matching gamma-powered threats, but it turns out that in the Avengers' darkest moment, his regular suit was capable of matching She-Hulk's strength, albeit only once he basically turned it into a missile.
