‘Murder Mystery 2’ trailer: American High founder directs new Adam Sandler, Jennifer Aniston movie
Netflix has released the first trailer for “Murder Mystery 2,” directed by Central New York filmmaker Jeremy Garelick.
The movie, a sequel to 2019′s “Murder Mystery,” stars Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston as Nick and Audrey Spitz, now full-time detectives investigating the abduction of the Maharaja at his own island wedding. The whodunnit film, which also takes them to Paris, will be released March 31.
“The Maharaja’s been kidnapped, and all of you are suspects,” Sandler says in the trailer.
“Murder Mystery,” which starred Sandler as a cop and Aniston as his wife, getting framed for murder while on vacation, was Netflix’s most popular title in 2019. The sequel was reportedly shot in Paris and the Caribbean.
Garelick, who founded Liverpool, N.Y.-based production company American High and directed “The Binge” (shot in the Syracuse area) with Vince Vaughn, previously wrote “The Break-Up” starring Vaughn and Aniston.
“Murder Mystery 2″ also stars Mark Strong (”Shazam!”), Adeel Akhtar (“Enola Holmes”), John Kani (“Black Panther”), Jodie Turner-Smith (“Queen & Slim”), and Tony Goldwyn (“Ghost”). The cast includes actors who shot American High films produced by Garelick in Syracuse, like Annie Mumolo (“Looks That Kill”) and Kuhoo Verma (“Plan B”).
“I know who the killer is...do you?” Garelick wrote on Twitter Monday, along with a link to the trailer.
Garelick, whose work in Hollywood also includes “The Hangover,” “Best. Worst. Weekend. Ever.” and “The Wedding Ringer,” was previously announced as the writer-director for a “Look Who’s Talking” reboot. It’s unclear if the project will still move forward; original star Kirstie Alley died last month and Bruce Willis retired from acting in March 2022 after being diagnosed with aphasia, a language disorder caused by brain damage that affects a person’s ability to communicate.
American High has shot 15 movies in the Syracuse area in five years, including “It’s a Wonderful Binge,” “I Love My Dad,” “Big Time Adolescence,” “Sex Appeal,” “Crush,” Banana Split,” “Holly Slept Over,” “The Ultimate Playlist of Noise,” and the upcoming releases “Empire Waist,” “Sid Is Dead,” “Miguel Wants to Fight” and a currently untitled Kevin James film. Garelick produced all of them.
