2023 Oscars Predictions: Best Supporting Actress

CATEGORY COMMENTARY: It’s been 30 years since Angela Bassett was nominated for playing Tina Turner in “What’s Love Got to Do With It?” (1993), and she’s returned as the first MCU actor nominated by the Academy for “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.” Naturally, with wins from the Golden Globes and Critics Choice Awards, she’s on track to become the first winner of the MCU. She would be the first woman to win for a superhero movie and the third person overall for a superhero film after Heath Ledger (“The Dark Knight”) and Joaquin Phoenix (“Joker”).

It’s not a “done deal” yet as Jamie Lee Curtis and Stephanie Hsu are both nominated in the presumed best picture frontrunner “Everything Everywhere All at Once.” And then there is Kerry Condon, who could become an easy way to reward “The Banshees of Inisherin” if it can’t pick up enough steam in the top categories. She’s also a possible favorite to win BAFTA as well.
