The feline star of the Stephen King film adaptation "Pet Sematary," Leo the Cat, has died, his new adopted owner announced on Instagram Wednesday night.

Leo starred in "Pet Sematary" as Church, the undead cat owned by the protagonist family who comes back to life after he is buried in a haunted animal graveyard with the power to bring animals and — even people — back from the dead. Leo was cast for his menacing scowl as he prowled the highway in the film and even graced its poster.

"It is with deep sadness that we tell you Leo has passed away," his trainer Kirk Jarrett wrote in a post shared on Leo's own Instagram account. "He will be forever missed by his human and fur family. May his star always shine bright."
