The latest incarnation of the Batman franchise, called fittingly enough “The Batman,” is in Chicago shooting exterior scenes through next weekend.

On Thursday, crew members were spotted doing prep work in the Loop near the Thompson Center, where it has been speculated there will be overnight action scenes — possible involving the Batmobile or motorcycles — but that has not been confirmed. Spottings of Gotham police cars were posted on social media Friday, as well as tattered flyers for a Gotham music festival.

When shooting, movies will often use a fake “code name” for the project in an effort to stay under the radar and, based on filming notices that have been posted in public spaces downtown, it appears “The Batman” is using the title “Vengeance."

The movie, which has primarily filming in London, made news last month when star Robert Pattison tested positive for COVID-19, which temporarily shut down production. Stars are not expected to be in town for the Chicago-shot scenes.

Chicago previously doubled for Gotham in Christopher Nolan’s “Batman Begins” from 2005 and “The Dark Knight” in 2008.
