One might say that Rachel Zegler is living a charmed life. After beating out thousands of hopefuls, the New Jersey native landed the lead role in Steven Spielberg’s remake of West Side Story even without a single movie credit under her belt.

Since then, Zegler has shot to popularity and perhaps, more importantly, gained critical acclaim, even earning a Golden Globe nod for her performance (the Oscars, on the other hand, snubbed the actress but that was far from the most controversial thing that transpired in the awards).

Since then, there has been a lot of interest over where fans can expect to see Zegler next. And as it turns out, the actress has multiple film projects in the works with some scheduled to be released very soon.

Rachel Zegler Joined The Cast Of Shazam! Fury Of The Gods

Back in 2021, it was revealed that Zegler has joined the cast of the DCEU sequel Shazam: Fury of the Gods, although everyone appeared to be tight-lipped about the role she would play in the movie.

Gradually though, details surrounding the actress’ character got out, thanks to Oscar winner who also joined the cast for the sequel along with veteran actress Lucy Liu.

And that is how everyone came to know that Zegler will play one of the daughters of the Greek Titan Atlas.

“I’m a member of three goddesses: Lucy Liu as Kalypso and the third goddess played by Rachel Zegler, who will be a huge star in a very short space of time,” Mirren revealed. She also spoke fondly of her time working on the film and being able to spend a lot of time with both Liu and Zegler.

“So there are three of us together, and that was really a great experience because it’s so infrequent that you get to spend a whole of a movie with two other women,” the actress said

“So often you’re the only woman in the cast. Here we were a trio, and that was great. I loved it.” Shazam! Fury of the Gods is slated for release in December 2022.

Rachel Zegler Also Stars In An Upcoming Live-Action Adaptation From Disney

Having worked on one successful remake with Spielberg, Zegler readily jumped into another, sort of. This time around, the actress signed on to play Snow White in the live-action adaptation of Disney’s famous cartoon. When she was first approached for the project by director Marc Webb, Zegler didn’t even have a clue what the film was.

“We had a very straightforward conversation before I’d even realized that [the movie] was Snow White,” the actress recalled.

“When I started to put the pieces together, and I knew it was a Disney princess thing, he was like, ‘Who’s the fairest of them all: What does fair mean? What does it have to mean? Does it mean skin tone? Does it mean beauty? Or does it mean whether or not you are just? The way you treat people? The way you approach others with kindness or lack thereof?’”

And while Zegler was thrilled to have been cast in the film, she was also very much aware of the backlash that came as a result, which she eventually chose to address directly.

“When it was announced, it was a huge thing that was trending on Twitter for days, because all of the people were angry. . . We need to love them in the right direction,” she told Andrew Garfield in the Actors on Actors series for Variety.

“Never in a million years did I imagine that this would be a possibility for me. You don't normally see Snow Whites that are of Latin descent. Even though Snow White is really a big deal in Spanish-speaking countries.”

Zegler later added, “At the end of the day, I have a job to do that I'm really excited to do. I get to be a Latina princess.”

Rachel Zegler Is Also Working On A Hunger Games Prequel

At the same time, it was also announced recently that Zegler had joined the cast of the upcoming Hunger Games prequel The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, which focuses on the early years of Coriolanus Snow (Tom Blyth) before he eventually became the tyrannical ruler of Panem.

In the movie, the actress will play Lucy Gray Baird, the District 12 tribute that Coriolanus mentors and eventually develops feelings for.

For the film’s director Francis Lawrence, he knew that there was no one better suited to play Lucy soon as he saw Zegler in Spielberg’s film.

“Like everybody, I first saw Rachel Zegler in West Side Story, and like everybody, I knew I was watching a star who would command the screen for a generation,” he said.

“Lucy Gray is a perfect match for her as an actress: the character is bold, independent, and defiant, but also vulnerable, emotional, and loving. Rachel will make this character unforgettable.”

Aside from these, Zegler is also involved in the animated film Spellbound, which features a star-studded voice cast that includes Nicole Kidman, Javier Bardem, André De Shields, John Lithgow, Nathan Lane, Jennifer Lewis, and Jordan Fisher.

The film centers on Princess Ellian (Zegler) who uses her powers to defend her family as forces of light and darkness try to divide their kingdom.
